Are You Experiencing Information Overload?

As a security consultant and researcher, I am inundated with a wealth of security information on a daily basis.  On top of that with starting my own business, there is a variety of other information I must keep up with.  These include tax requirements, corporation paperwork, accounting records, marketing, insurance, website development, and a host of other business related requirements.  I have no employees at this time so that is one less thing that must be dealt with, but if your really sit down and think about it for a moment, you wonder sometimes how you keep up with everything.  Some items related to running your own business can be handled by other firms or subcontractors, but what about protecting your business from the variety of security threats that seem to grow daily?

IDC, a firm that specializes in market research, estimated in 2006 that the world generated 160 billion gigabytes of data.  Then, recently, IDC estimated that by 2011, information would be ten times the size it was in 2006.  A wealth of information on almost any topic you want is available, but at the same time most people are still thirsting for relevant information that they can use.  Basically, there is a big haystack, and it is becoming harder and harder to find the needle (i.e. the information you need).

During economic down turns, the need for relevant security information becomes even more pressing.  Why is that?  It is because a depressed economy usually means that the numbers of thefts and fraud increase as the economy goes down.  It is kind of like the price of gold: gold usually goes up as the stock market goes down.  So how do you obtain the relevant security information you can use to protect your business against the variety of computer and physical security threats that seem to change continually without wasting valuable time and hard earned dollars?

Relevant security information is critical anytime you want to protect your business without wasting time or money.  No business owner I have met has hours each day to keep up with security-related issues nor do they usually have additional funds to spend when security they implemented proved to be ineffective.  That is the purpose of this website–to provide timely and relevant security information to businesses so that business owners do not have to spend hours each day finding security information that meets their needs.

This website was developed to assist those small and medium-sized businesses that do not have dedicated security staff in obtaining the needed information to make an informed decision on what to protect their businesses from as well as how to protect it.  No security measure is guaranteed, but relevant information applied to individual situations can definitely improve the security of a business.
